One of the challenges WaterAid Country Programmes are facing is finding the right balance between emergency COVID-19 response and regular hygiene programming. We highlight that this needs to be context specific as each country is going through different stages of lockdown as measures either lift or become extended and messages need to be aligned with the government. Our immediate response was a rapid response with mass production of handwashing facilities but as we transition it is critical to focus on sustained hygiene behaviour change and sustainable, long lasting handwashing facilities. A good resource, key principles for COVID-19 response programming, defines 3 principles to guide work, ensure it remains relevant and minimise harm.
How are your programmes ensuring sustained hygiene behaviour change?
